In the context of the new law on research, the government has set up a Carnot system, intended to promote and develop partnership research between higher education and/or research establishments and the industry.

In 2007, three groups of players combining strong skills in the lipid field joined to create the Carnot LISA Institute (Lipids for Industry,SAfety and health) : ITERG, l’IMBL, PRES « University of Bordeaux ».
